Have you ever had one of those times when you were feeling shaky – or panicky – and someone told you to take some deep breaths? Yeah, me, too! While it might have helped a little, it turns out that it is not exactly the right idea for someone with a Panic Disorder. The link will take you to an article outlining research being done at Southern Methodist University and the ideas they’ve come up instead of the old tried and not so true.
They do good research in this area at SMU – a news story a few years ago led me to call one of the researchers down there – and they generously helped me to understand how some of their ideas could be used in helping someone with a Blood/Needle Phobia client at the time.
