Hypnosis

A quick Internet search with just the word 'hypnosis' will yield over 19 million contact points on the Google search engine. How can anyone make sense out of all that?

Most hypnosis sites make big promises for hypnosis. As a result, there is considerable misinformation about hypnosis. A great place to start for authoritative information is at the ASCH website.

After you read that article, you'll know:
  •  Hypnosis is not a treatment itself, but a tool of treatment for medicine, dentistry, and mental health treatment.
  • Hypnosis does not cause a loss of control.
  • Stage hypnosis does not represent clinical hypnosis.
  • A health care provider using hypnosis does not impose hypnosis - it is a facilitation of the personal attributes and skills of the client or patient.
  • Hypnosis is not sleep. It is not a state of unconsciousness. You will hear what is being said to you during your hypnosis session, and will likely have a distinct memory of the expeience after the session is over.
  • You will establish the goals for your treatment with your health care provider. It is a collaborative experience.
  • The number of sessions you will participate in is dependent on your situation, your goals, and your response to treatment. While I can tell you that I generally see people for smoking cessation for 2 sessions, all other estimates are educated guesses that may be modified as we work together.
What is Hypnosis Used for?
Hypnosis is well known as a help for smoking cessation. Weight management strategies often employ hypnosis. But that is just the beginning.

You'll find that an experienced clinician can use hypnosis to facilitate or accelerate the progress  you make for:
  • habit control
  • pain management
  • pyschotherapy
  • personal growth
