Psychotherapy

My work typically includes individuals and families dealing with the emotional impact of chronic or life-threatening illness. I assist people with Stress, Self-Esteem, Affairs, Relationships, Depression and Anxiety - including phobias, fears, and excessive worry. I have a special interest and advanced training in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I attended the Behavior Therapy Institute, sponsored by the OC Foundation. I try my best to stay up on continuing developments in the field.

Additionally, I enjoy the opportunity to help couples with relationship concerns. Every stage of a relationship brings its own set of excitement and challenges. Terry takes an action-oriented and collaborative approach to relationships. I have participated in distance learning experiences with The Couples Institute, and have studied the work of John Gottman, PhD - and strive to incorporate their ideas into my work.

Having been in practice for over 30 years, it is fair to say that I have developed a style of working that suits me. Fundamentally, you and I tailor an approach that guides & supports you to arrive at the destination that you've determined for yourself. Together, we take a look at your current challenges, their historical underpinnings, and the goals that you wish to pursue.

We might meet weekly - or less often - depending on your needs and lifestyle. Sessions are used for skill building, resolution of troubling emotions, and rehearsal for the successful future you desire.

Often, I will ask you to read, write, practice the skills we discuss in-session at home - or wherever it would be helpful. When relevant, and agreeable to you, we incorporate Clinical Hypnosis, self-hypnosis - or other strategies to support your growth. Facing tough situations - like the things that have made you anxious up until now - will be important.

 Psychological testing - Psychiatric consultations

When useful, we can arrange for psychological testing with one of my colleagues.

We also have an Advanced Practice Nurse in the office who can see you - as needed - for the evaluation & management of medications. I also am happy to work with your doctor or to help facilitate your seeing a psychiatrist outside of our office.
Colleagues at
Associated Counseling Professionals

I am fortunate to be surrounded by about a dozen excellent clinicians right down the hall. As needed, we can arrange for additional services for other members of the family. Colleagues have experience with child therapy, mediation, collaborative practice divorce procedures, just to name a few.
